Projects

At the Ecosystem Conservation Society (EKOS), we implement science-based, participatory, and sustainable projects aimed at the protection of natural ecosystems. A central focus of our work is sea grass, one of the most vital components of the Mediterranean marine ecosystem.

Sea Grass Conservation and Awareness Project

Posidonia oceanica is a seagrass species endemic to the Mediterranean Sea and plays a crucial role in preventing coastal erosion, improving water quality, storing carbon, and providing habitat for numerous marine species. However, seagrass meadows are increasingly threatened by coastal development, anchoring activities, pollution, and the impacts of climate change.

Within the scope of this project, we aim to:

  • Monitor the distribution and condition of seagrass meadows through field observations
  • Conduct awareness and educational activities for coastal users, divers, and local communities
  • Promote sustainable marine use and tourism practices
  • Increase the visibility of the ecosystem services provided by seagrass meadows

Other Environmental and Ecosystem Projects
EKOS approaches marine and terrestrial ecosystems as interconnected systems. In this context, our work also includes:

  • Protection of coastal and nearshore ecosystems
  • Biodiversity monitoring and conservation activities
  • Awareness projects addressing plastic pollution and other human-induced pressures
  • Volunteer-based programs and environmental education initiatives

Each project aims to integrate scientific knowledge with local experience and to contribute to the development of a nature-positive and sustainable way of life.
